In preparation for the Tour de France, the Swiss national tour has been a fixture on the calendar for decades. “This place on the calendar makes us very attractive to the big teams and the best riders,” says tour director Olivier Senn.
The Swiss teams Tudor Pro Cycling (with team owner Fabian Cancellara) and Q36.5 Pro Cycling received a wildcard. The Swiss national team was selected as the 23rd team. “The participation of the national team gives the second group of our emerging athletes the rare opportunity to compare themselves with the best in the world and draw attention to themselves,” says competition sports director Patrick Müller. “In recent years, countless athletes have been able to use the home race at WorldTour level as a springboard to professional cycling.” (SDA)
