The Ski Cross World Championships will take place in the Engadine next winter. For Alex Fiva it would be a home game. Because the 38-year-old reveals in an interview with ‘Le Matin’ that a possible dismissal is possible after the end of the season next week in Veysonnaz.
“To be honest, I’m not sure if I’ll continue next year,” says the 2021 world champion. The decision lies with his family: “I have to discuss it with my family, if they agree, then maybe. My children and my wife will make this decision.”
All three of them have to say yes.
It’s difficult to be away from home so often. Fiva’s daughter Nalani Lilly is five and son Leif Janne is three years old. His daughter begins to understand what Fiva does for a living and where he goes when he’s away. That makes it increasingly difficult, says Fiva. If all three were to say yes to continuing, the big goal would of course be the World Cup at home. But the team would have to qualify for the first time.
From a sporting perspective, there is nothing to indicate that he will end his career. With three races to go, Fiva is fighting for victory in the overall World Championship. The 38-year-old barely notices the year-long injury due to a torn ACL. The prospects for the 2025 World Cup are also said to be good. But just – would be…
