Carlos Alcaraz must protect himself from bees.

The break lasts almost two hours after the bees arrive. When the score is 1:1, nine minutes have been played, the swarm moves over Center Court and initially makes the game impossible. The insects attach themselves to the TV cameras and also attack Alcaraz.

‘I’m not going to lie,’ says Alcaraz, ‘I’m a little afraid of bees. It was definitely the most unusual match I’ve ever played in my career, the 20-year-old explains: “I thought there would only be a few, not too many. But I looked up at the sky and there were thousands and thousands more, sitting in my hair and flying towards me. It was crazy.”

Alcaraz, who was stabbed in the forehead, will now face Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner of Italy in the hard-court tournament worth almost $12 million.

Zverev won the last meeting with Wimbledon winner Alcaraz in the quarter-finals in Melbourne after an impressive performance. Now the 26-year-old had no chance. In the overall balance, Zverev remains in the lead, it is 5:4. (AFP)
