“Luck again,” Ajoie coach Christian Wohlwend probably thought on Friday evening. Thanks to Oltner’s elimination, no play-outs can be played.

More than ten days after the last serious battle of the regular competition, the two bottom teams in the National League – Kloten and Ajoie – can now go on holiday. Because the two second-tier Swiss League finalists – the GCK Lions and HC La Chaux-de-Fonds – have not applied for a top division license, promotion and relegation will not be played this year.

In the semi-final of the play-offs against Olten, the GCK Lions won in extremis in game seven.

Efficient Lions advance to the finals

Almost 90 seconds into the third period, the Northwestern Swiss team got the deserved equalizer (42nd) – the sold-out Kleinholz rink shook. To the dismay of the vast majority of the almost 5,400 spectators, the Oltners then suffered two concentration problems within eleven seconds, meaning that the Zurich team was once again ahead by two goals after more than 43 minutes. Especially the 2:4, in which goalkeeper Nyffeler missed the target behind the goal, hurts Olten’s heart.

The home team did not give up after that and came within two more goals ten minutes before the end. But the uprising comes too late, the game ends 4:5 from Oltner’s perspective.

It is the more efficient team that ultimately celebrates. The team from Zurich took an early 2-0 lead in the first third with a double strike (8th and 9th minute), but then had to tremble. The guests seem nervous at times and only know how to help themselves in case of dishonest behavior: goalkeeper Lorin Grüter deliberately lifts the goal from its anchorage during an attack by Oltner.

The man of the match for the Zurich side is Joel Henry, who scored a hat-trick in the final third.
