Salome Lang, high jumper

It happened after a six-month trip to New Zealand. The best Swiss high jumper returned to training with a few kilos more. “I no longer jumped upright, which caused me to lose weight,” she tells Blick. This developed into an eating disorder.

“I didn’t eat anything until I was so hungry I emptied the refrigerator. Then I felt guilty and starved again.” A psychologist could help her. Today the 26-year-old has the problem under control. But the Basel resident admits: “Food will always be a problem for me.”

Stefanie Siegenthaler, artistic gymnast

The behavior of Hungarian coach Zoltan Jordanov shocked the then 15-year-old from Zurich. “He insulted certain athletes in front of the entire team. “He criticized her weight,” the gymnast told Blick last fall. Every other week she had to stand on the scales for the trainer in Magglingen BE. “That was really unpleasant. A psychological terror.”

The now 25-year-old’s body began to rebel. Stomach ache. “I was sitting in front of a full plate, but I couldn’t eat another bite.” She lost a lot of weight. Your salvation? Psychologist Rahel Locher. Thanks to their help, Siegenthaler says today, “I’m doing well.”

Lena Häcki-Gross, biathlete

It all started when her trainer suggested she lose weight. This will make her a better athlete. This developed into a binge eating disorder. This means that Häcki did not have normal eating habits, but instead starved until she could no longer tolerate it and then fell into binge eating.

“I convinced myself that I didn’t deserve any help,” the 28-year-old told the “Luzerner Zeitung” in April 2022. Thanks to psychological help, she was able to overcome the disorder.

Angelica Moser, pole vaulter

The Zurich resident had her first binges as a teenager. “I became addicted and addicted to sugar,” she told the “Sonntagszeitung” in September 2020. She was confronted with her weight early on, as it is an important piece of the puzzle for success in the high jump. “At the worst moments I was five kilos overweight,” she admits.

The fact that foreign trainers talk about her weight when she enters the hall at international meetings destroys her psychologically. “There were also times when I didn’t want to train in a cropped outfit, no matter how hot it was.” Thanks to therapy sessions, Moser learned to deal with food in a healthy way.
