Jérôme Bachofner (27) seemed to be an indispensable part of the ZSC Lions in the run-up to this season. Otherwise, alongside Sven Andrighetto (30) and Willy Riedi (25), he would hardly have been chosen as the third person for the marketing campaign to promote the new season. The corresponding posters were then hung in many places in the city and the Zurich conurbation. The small downside is that Bachofner was no longer a ZSC Lions player at that time!

He played the first preparatory match at the beginning of August. He was then sent on a one-way ticket to farm team GCK Lions in the Swiss league. In his place, younger strikers such as Nicolas Baechler (20) or Joel Henry (20) could show themselves in the National League.

It was a shock to Bachofner. Looking back, he does not want to say much more about the events of that time, but simply says: “What’s done is done – nothing else matters.”

Biel didn’t hesitate for a second

The Dübendorf resident received compliments from all sides about how professionally he responded to his ‘relegation’, as he calls it, and how he threw himself into the GCK Lions. “In a situation like this, no one will pat you on the back, you have to help yourself. The whole thing has made me stronger,” says Bachofner.

But of course this could not be a permanent situation for him. When the opportunity with Biel arose at the end of October, “I didn’t hesitate for a second.” First Bachofner was hired for four games by the Seelanders, who were struggling with bad luck with injuries at the time, and then permanently – with a contract until 2025: ‘I am very happy, the team is great, the club is great. familiar – it can continue like this.”

And now it’s against the ZSC Lions in the quarter-finals of the play-offs. “It’s a special feeling, but the focus for me is to concentrate on our game, regardless of the opponent. Then everything will be fine,” Bachofner is convinced.

It is not yet 100 percent clear whether he can even participate in Game 1 on Saturday. In the decisive play-in game on Wednesday against Ambri (4:2), he heroically blocked a shot, but was hit in the hand by the puck. “It’s swollen, but it’s nothing serious and it will go away,” he believes. The man who was relegated from there absolutely does not want to miss these matches against the ZSC Lions.
