Werner in second place in the overall World Cup
Pirmin Werner took 4th place in the last competition of the World Cup winter in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Due to the dense fog, the competition had to be counted after qualifying. The 24-year-old from Zurich Weinländer was just five points short of his third podium finish of the season. China celebrated a double victory with Qi Guangpu and Wang Guochen. American Christopher Lillis came third. The Swiss Noé Roth jumped to seventh place.
Qi had the upper hand in the general classification. The Chinese was 140 points ahead of Werner, who rose one place in the final rankings and took second place.
Premiere and prestigious victory for Klaebo
Cross-country skier Johannes Hösflot Klaebo wins the 50 km classic in Oslo in 2:06:50. For the Norwegian it was the 80th victory in the World Cup, the first at the legendary Holmenkollen. In the longest race of the year, the 27-year-old impressively demonstrated his strength in the final sprint. He won ahead of his compatriots Martin Löwström Nyenget and Paal Goldberg. World Cup leader Harald Östberg Amundsen positioned himself directly behind the podium and together with Didrik Tönseth completed the Norwegian five-fold victory in the home race.
Beda Klee was the best of the five Swiss competitors in 29th place. The Toggenburger lost 2:44 to the winner.
Deschwanden is the only Swiss to score points
The Swiss also failed to achieve a top result in the second World Cup match at Holmenkollen in Oslo. Just like on Saturday, only Gregor Deschwanden scored some World Cup points in 22nd place. The Norwegian Johann Andre Forfang secured a home victory. (SDA)
