The quarter-finals of the ATP Challenger tournament in Lugano will take place without Swiss participation. Alexander Ritschard, the last local player left in the field, failed in the round of 16. The 29-year-old (ATP 198) lost to number 3 seed Moldovan Radu Albot (ATP 152) 6:1, 4:6, 4 :6.

The Swiss have never had to give up their home tournament, which has been taking place again since 2021, so early. At the premiere, Dominic Stricker celebrated his first title as a tennis professional at the age of 18. Last year the semi-finals were the final destination for the Bernese. In between, Leandro Riedi narrowly missed out on winning the tournament after losing to Italian Luca Nardi in the final. (SDA)
