As expected, the new coach of the national handball team will be called Andy Schmid (40) from March. He succeeds Michael Suter, whose handball club prematurely disbanded a few weeks ago. Schmid, who ended his playing career at the end of January, was originally not expected to take charge until July. He now starts his job four months earlier than planned.

The Lucerne native made his first training appearance in March with the test match against world champions Denmark. Things will get serious in June during the World Cup play-offs against Slovenia.
