Comeback for the European Championship preparations: Kroos returns to the German national team

Toni Kroos (34) returns to the German national football team for the European Championship at home. The 2014 world champion announced this on Thursday via Instagram. This means that he also has to be there when Switzerland meets the host country of the European Championship.

Kroos was the midfield ‘metronome’ of the 2014 World Cup team, and the 2021 European Championship round defeat to England at Wembley was his last of 106 caps to date (17 goals). Kroos continues to pull the strings at Real Madrid and is one of the safest passers in football.

He had emphatically kept the option of a comeback open in recent months; national coach Julian Nagelsmann called it “an interesting idea”. He will be back for the March internationals against France in Lyon (March 23) and against the Netherlands in Frankfurt (March 26). (AFP/che)
