The Swiss national handball team will have to do without two top players in the future. As the association announced, Marvin Lier (31) and Nicolas Raemy (31) have decided not to play for the national team in the future.
The two made this decision independently for personal reasons. “For me it was always the best thing to be able to represent Switzerland on the handball court,” says Lier. After the atmospheric highlight of the 2024 European Championship, the time was ripe for him to resign. Lier scored 250 goals in 105 international matches.
Raemy dreamed of playing for Switzerland as a junior. He made his debut for the senior national team at the age of 17 and has 87 international matches (235 goals) to his name. “I am grateful for everything I have experienced in the national team,” says Raemy.
The first international match without Lier and Raemy will take place in mid-March. Afterwards, the national team will play a test match against world champions Denmark. (beer)
