The entry of investors is currently the big topic in football Germany. At almost every match in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, fans protest against the vote with various actions and ensure that the match is interrupted.
The entry of investors into football is now also a topic on German television. In the talk show ‘Hard maar Honest’, guests from sports and politics spoke about the explosive subject on Monday evening. Martin Kind (79), director of second division club Hannover 96, was also part of the group.
The child’s voice is not public
Child is one of the biggest enemies of the German fan scene. Because many fans are sure that he voted for the investor deal behind the back of his club – Hannover 96 is said to have been against the deal – and thus secured the necessary majority. Unlike most other clubs, Kind does not want to make his vote public.
“I have a different understanding of democracy, I also have a different understanding of the rules of the game,” he explained in the TV program on Monday evening. He rejects the fact that many clubs published their votes after the actual secret ballot.
“Your junk”
The fans’ side is represented in the studio by Thomas Kessen, member of the fan association “Our Curve”. And he shoots sharply at Kind: “Mr Kind has the opportunity to prevent a lot of damage to German football. The fact that we are at this point is already doing enormous damage to German football. What we are talking about here is whether Mr Kind voted yes or no and whether he followed the club’s instructions.”
As Kessen speaks, Kind intervenes and asks, “Even if it were, what would change?” The fan representative explains that at least the fans would have certainty. This is exactly what is behind the fan protests: “That democratic acceptance is not given or is at least greatly questioned. Especially because of your behavior and your hassle in the discussion afterwards.”
New session this week
Kessen’s harsh words are received with applause from the studio audience. And the child, who seems a little shocked, simply replies, “Okay, I’ll take note of that.”
One thing is certain: the last word in the investor drama has not yet been spoken. According to the German news agency, the DFL Presidium plans to re-examine the ongoing investor process this week.
