Swiss misses last goal: Hartweg misses the top 10 at the World Cup

Niklas Hartweg only fails at the last goal at the World Cup in the individual 20 kilometer race.

The man from Schwyz lost four and a half minutes to winner Johannes Thingnes Bö. Bronze was also more than two and a half minutes away. Against this background, the appealing ranking was disappointing, especially because the 2019 junior world champion in this discipline was already on the podium at the World Championships.

Hartweg’s 20th projectile shattered on the edge of the window and could no longer activate the folding mechanism. Even with flawless shooting it wouldn’t have been enough for more than 9th place.

Stadler outside the top 20

Hartweg was too weak on the cross-country ski trail on Thursday evening to convert the strong assist from the shooting into a coup. There could be two reasons for this: on the one hand, the 23-year-old fell ill several times during the season and was unable to fully prepare for the World Cup. On the other hand, the employees of the Swiss-Ski service have problems preparing fast skis on the partly dirty snow tire in the Nove Mesto forest.

The individual is the most shooting-heavy of all disciplines and is therefore tailored to the strengths of Hartweg or Sebastian Stalder. An error is not compensated with a penalty lap, but with a penalty minute.

For once, Stalder was not convincing in his field. The 28th place including two penalty minutes was frustrating for the Zurich Oberlander. (SDA)
