Roman Mityukov missed the medal in the 100 meters backstroke, but is ready to compete in the 200 meters.

23-year-old Roman Mityukov from Geneva took 6th place in the final of the main group and can look forward to the coming days with confidence.

Compared to the semi-final the day before, Mityukov cannot improve. He hits again in 53.64 seconds, 0.32 seconds slower than his Swiss record. Mityukov is 0.28 seconds short of a podium finish. The title goes to the American Hunter Armstrong.

“Not that bad,” is how Mityukov assesses his performance against Swiss Aquatics. “I don’t train that often for the 100 m. As for the 200 m, I am happy with the race.”

The 200 meter backstroke is Mityukov’s flagship discipline. He won the bronze medal at this distance in Fukuoka, Japan last June. The preliminary rounds and semi-finals take place on Thursday; Friday is all about the medals. (SDA)
