The board of the Swiss Olympic sports umbrella organization wants to continue the project of a Winter Olympic Games in 2038.
At the end of November, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ignored Switzerland in awarding the 2030 Winter Olympics, but promised a privileged dialogue with a view to hosting the 2038 Games. At Wednesday’s meeting, the Council decided of the Swiss Olympic Board to take this path.
He instructs the Swiss 203X Association “to prepare, in consultation with the IOC, the participation in the privileged dialogue and to specify the proposal submitted to the Sports Parliament in November 2023,” as Swiss Olympic announced. The revised proposal will be presented to the Sports Parliament at an extraordinary meeting on May 23, 2024, so that Swiss Olympic members can confirm the process and decide on the budget presented for the privileged dialogue.
Feasibility study for European Games
In view of another possible major event in Switzerland, the European Championships, the Swiss Olympic Board of Directors has decided to conduct a corresponding feasibility study. The research is intended to determine by the autumn of 2024 whether the sporting, social and political conditions for holding these European Games of various summer sports in Switzerland in 2030 or 2034 have been met.
