Meschack Elia will be missing from the Young Boys for another week. The YB attacker is in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations after a 3-1 win with Congo against Guinea and will therefore only be available for his club in the final weekend on February 10 and 11.
While central defender Camara has to watch the quarter-final match from Guinea’s bench, Elia plays in Congo’s attack for almost an hour. Shortly after his substitution, Yoane Wissa took the preliminary decision with a converted penalty kick to make the score 2-1.
In the semi-final on Wednesday (9 p.m.), Elia and Congo will face the winner of the match between host country Ivory Coast and Mali.
Nigeria will play the other semi-final against the winner of the match between Cape Verde and South Africa. The Super Eagles kept their hopes of a first win since 2013 and fourth place in the overall standings alive with a 1-0 win over Angola in the quarter-final.
Former Swiss junior international Signori Antonio is in goal for Angola. The goalkeeper, who plays for Etoile Carouge in the Promotion League, had to be beaten by Atalanta Bergamo’s striker Ademola Lookman just before half-time. (SDA/dti)
