De Roon is injured at Atalanta 29 days before the World Cup
Marten de Roon suffered a hamstring injury in Atalanta’s home game against Lazio (0-2) in Serie A. With a view to the World Cup in Qatar, this is not a nice scenario for the Orange international.
De Roon had to be substituted in the 75th minute on Sunday evening. The midfielder had just sat down on the ground and grabbed the back of his right leg.
He is part of the 39-strong World Cup pre-selection of national coach Louis van Gaal. Orange’s final selection will be announced on Friday 11th November. The Dutch national team will play their first World Cup match in 29 days against Senegal on Monday 21 November.
Not a good evening
In any case, it was not a positive evening for Atalanta, who, alongside De Roon, also played at the base with Teun Koopmeiners and Hans Hateboer.
Lazio took the lead after ten minutes through Mattia Zaccagni (tacker) and in the 52nd minute, Felipe Anderson doubled the Roma team’s goal with a shot from the edge of the box.
