It’s been 1295 days. On July 11, 2020, FCB celebrated a 3-2 win at home against YB, Samuele Campo and Arthur Cabral scoring twice Basel’s goals. Since then, the two teams have met fifteen times in the championship and cup, with FCB unable to win a single one.

“Far too much time has already passed,” says Fabio Celestini (48) about the horror series. The FCB coach is happy to help put an end to this on Saturday evening (8.30 pm). But after his yellow-red card against FCZ (0-0), Celestini missed the big goal and was suspended.

Without a coach against the leader, the starting position for a Basel victory against YB was already better. In the last 31 direct matches, there were only three.

YB has not achieved a Saturday victory in Basel since 2008

But there are also two statistics that give Basel hope. On the one hand, the biggest FCB shock is missing: Jean-Pierre Nsame (30), who is likely to move to Como in Serie B. The Cameroonian scored twelve times against Bebbi, more than any other YB player in the history of the Super League anyway.

On the other hand, the schedule speaks in favor of the Basel team. FCB have won all their last six home games on Saturday against YB. The last YB victory on this day of the week was in Joggeli on September 27, 2008. At that time in Bern’s starting eleven: current FCB boss David Degen (40).
