Without De Jong, Cambuur goes down deep in injury time against Twente: 0-1
SC Cambuur seemed to have a point left after clashing with FC Twente in an emotionally charged game, but it went awry deep in injury time. Ricky van Wolfswinkel converted a penalty after a handball by Doke Schmidt: 0:1.
Previously, the duel was dominated by one person: Henk de Jong. The coach, who retired this week due to ill health, received a deafening applause from the crowd and a beautiful banner was displayed by the selection and staff.

De Jong, who is not present at the stadium, will no doubt have seen it with a smile and a tear from afar. Cambuur hopes to keep him in another position for the club in the future.
After all the praise for De Jong, Cambuur approached the Enschede sub-topper with full enthusiasm. Silvester van der Water was close to making it 1-0 within a minute, but his shot down the left, too weak, went just wide of goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall.
Twente threatened twice before half-time. An attempt by Ramiz Zerrouki was stopped by keeper João Virgínia and the Portuguese prevented Virgil Misidjan from scoring just before the break. He did that by defusing the attacker’s chance by coming out well and clearing the ball.

The second half was marked by many fights, with Twente getting better and better. After an hour Michel Vlap shot over for Twente, that was it for now.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Cambuur defender Leon Bergsma prevented substitute Sem Steijn from scoring.
on the pole
In the final stages, the home side concentrated mainly on defence, and after just under 80 minutes they breathed a sigh of relief after a shot at the post by Daan Rots, who had extended his contract earlier in the month.
A point seemed the highest achievable for Cambuur and the Leeuwarden team just couldn’t. Deep in stoppage time, the ball hit the bull’s-eye after a handball from Doke Schmidt, whereupon Van Wolfswinkel scored the 0-1 against the ropes.
