The women’s national team will play their first matches in Spain this year.

Just like her predecessor Inka Grings (45), Pia Sundhage (63) makes her debut as coach of the Swiss national women’s team with two matches against Poland. As the Swiss Football Association announced, the SFV selection will test twice against number 29 in the FIFA world rankings on February 23 and 27 as part of a ten-day training camp in the south of Spain.

The two test matches in Marbella mark the start of the 2024 international competition year, which is all about European Championship qualification. As the host country that has already qualified, Switzerland will be included in a group in League B.

After New Year’s Eve, Sundhage took over from Inka Grings, who was fired in November. As a coach, the Swede won Olympic gold with the US in 2008 and 2012 and silver with the Swedish team in 2016. (SDA)
