It is one of the most demanding courses in Swiss ice hockey. As a goalkeeper at SCB you are always under pressure and under special observation. Moreover, under new coach Jussi Tapola, the Berners are still extremely dependent on the goalkeeper who makes the difference with parades and a cool charisma.
From the start, the Finnish coach fully relied on Adam Reideborn (32), who led CSKA Moscow to the title last season. And the Swede was the support SCB needed. In close games, he saved the team many points at crucial moments and played a big role in SCB being able to establish themselves in the top 6.
But in recent weeks, Reideborn has made mistakes. He does not always manage to maintain focus for more than 60 minutes and no longer exudes the same self-confidence as before. And SCB concedes goal after goal. 17 in the last four games, all of which were losses. The goalkeeper’s defense percentages during the series of defeats are also worrying: 90.2 percent in Lausanne, 90.7 percent against Fribourg and recently 85 and 87.18 percent in the double round against Lugano.
A break is finally planned for the weekend
It is not surprising that Reideborn has slowed down a bit, having started thirteen games in a row in goal. Did SCB ruin their goalkeeper?
Sports director Andrew Ebbett defends himself and points out that Friborg goalkeeper Reto Berra also played many games. The Nati goalkeeper actually started 33 games – one fewer than Reideborn – in goal.
At the end of October, competitor Philip Wüthrich (27), who was able to resume training at the beginning of this year, was sidelined with a thumb injury. Since then, Reideborn has only gotten one break. Daniel Manzato (40) was in goal and SCB lost 7-0 in Davos. Andri Henauer (21), on loan to SL-Leader Basel, trained with SCB and extended his contract until 2026, but was never allowed to play.
At the weekend, when SCB meets chasers Davos and the SCRJ Lakers, a breather is finally planned for Reideborn. Wüthrich made his return to partner team Basel on Saturday (6-1 against Martigny).
Blick will broadcast the cracker Bern – Davos live on Friday – the broadcast with studio starts at 7.25 pm.
