Bernhard Heusler was considered a candidate to become the new president of the Swiss Football Association (SFV). Now the former FCB chairman himself has communicated his resignation on the LinkedIn platform. He said it was an honor that the Swiss Football League (SFL) had asked him to apply, but nevertheless declined the “very interesting offer”.
Heusler justifies his rejection with three arguments: First, he does not have the ideal profile for the position. During his time as FCB chairman, he particularly enjoyed working with top athletes and coaches. However, an SFV chairman must represent the entire association, including the amateur area and not just the professional area surrounding the national teams.
Not the same dedication as FCB
Secondly, compared to his work in Basel, “in terms of honest self-reflection” he lacks the same “unconditional dedication” to the office of SFV president. Third, he still has ongoing projects that he would no longer be able to pursue if elected.
“I hope and count on understanding for my decision. I experienced the trust shown in me and the motivating words as a great and not self-evident appreciation, for which I am very grateful,” says Bernhard Heusler.
