Eight sailings were planned, eight sailings had to be cancelled. However, the plan to launch the speed season in late autumn with races on the Matterhorn Glacier will not be changed.

What OK President Franz Julen had already announced in November has now been confirmed for the first time by Swiss-Ski in an official announcement. FIS, Swiss-Ski, the Italian Federation (FISI) and the organizing committee would have a contract until the 2026/2027 season. “This agreement stipulates that four speed races will be held in Zermatt-Cervinia at the end of October and November each season.”

Accordingly, there will again be four runs on the provisional FIS calendar for winter 2024/25.

Analysis announced

In response to the sometimes strong criticism of the glacier races, the four partners want to thoroughly analyze the situation, including sponsors, TV stations and other stakeholders. The weather data – this year the strong wind thwarted the organizers’ plans – must also be evaluated. “We are convinced that this analysis will be decisive in organizing a top event in 2024.”
