Only 20 years old – and already won a PGA tournament: Nick Dunlap.

Nick Dunlap, a 20-year-old student at the University of Alabama, defeated Christiaan Bezuidenhout by one stroke on Sunday in La Quinta, California.

Dunlap is only the third amateur since 1957 to win a professional tournament. “I’ve never felt anything like this,” Dunlap said. “It was so cool to experience that as an amateur.” The defeated Bezuidenhout said afterwards about Dunlap: “It’s great. I heard his name last year when he won the U.S. Amateur Championships. He’s obviously a great player and I congratulate him and hope he can play on the PGA Tour soon and we can all play with him.”

With 29 strokes under par, the reigning amateur champion broke the tournament record and is also the youngest amateur to win on the PGA Tour since 1910. Whether he remains an amateur as a college student or moves to the PGA Tour and turns professional. parents, no decision has been made yet. He is certainly eligible to participate in the Masters and the US Open. (SDA/neo)
