It’s a thriller at the Junior World Championships in St. Moritz. After two runs, 0.01 seconds decide between gold and silver. The shining winner in the women’s monobob race? Zug’s Debora Annen (21) has the upper hand over Germany’s Diana Filipszki (19) in the exciting match for the title.

It’s been a crazy 24 hours for Annen. On Friday she will be disqualified from the European Cup two-man race because she starts when the track is not open. A day after the collapse, the bobsleigh talent won her first World Cup gold.

Her father was an Olympic medalist in bobsleigh

Annen is the daughter of former bobsleigh pilot Martin Annen (49), who was European champion and three-time Olympic bronze winner. Now the woman from Schwyz continues the family tradition – but it didn’t look like that for a long time. Debora Annen was on her way to top handball when she had to stop playing indoor sports due to an injury in 2021 and tried out the ice rink.

She is now world junior champion and the first Swiss woman to win gold in the young monobob class. Will she become the first Swiss two-man world champion on Sunday since Sabina Hafner in 2010? Annen told Blick: “We have certainly learned from our mistake on Friday and are looking forward to attacking again on Sunday.”
