World number two Carlos Alcaraz will not be challenged in the third round of the Australian Open. At the age of 18, the Chinese Shang Juncheng (ATP 140), two years younger than him, had to retire at the beginning of the third set with a thigh injury.
Alcaraz won the first two sets twice with 6:1. The Wimbledon winner is in Melbourne for the first time in the second week. Two years ago he failed in the third round and last year he was injured.
His next opponent Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP 60) will have to work much harder. The Serbian defeated last year’s semi-finalist Tommy Paul in almost four hours. He fends off two match points – just like in the previous round against Jan-Lennard Struff. (SDA)
