Mirra Andrejewa gave Ons Jabeur no chance with an almost perfect performance.

In less than an hour, 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andrejewa (WTA 47) wiped out world number 6 Ons Jabeur (29) (6:0, 6:2). She left only two matches to the three-time Grand Slam finalist. Andrejewa started her meteoric rise last spring in Switzerland with two victories in ITF tournaments. She then reached the third round as a qualifier at the French Open and the round of 16 at Wimbledon.

A year ago she was ranked 292, but after her first Australian Open she will at least reach the top 35. At least, because after this performance she is also the favorite in the 3rd round against compatriot Kamila Rachimova (WTA 90) or the French Diane Parry (WTA 72).

Former world number 1 has been eliminated

In the American match, Coco Gauff (19) has the upper hand over Caroline Dolehide (25). The winner of the 2023 US Open will win in two sets 7:6 and 6:2. In the third round she will face her next compatriot Alycia Parks. The 23-year-old won her second round match against 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez (21), also confidently in straight sets (7:6, 6:4).

The meeting between former world number 1 Caroline Wozniacki (33) and newcomer Marija Glebowna Timofejewa (20) was much closer. Initially, everything seemed to be going well for Wozniacki. The Dane only conceded one game and took the first set (6:1). But then Timofeeva turned up the heat. And draw 6:4 in sets.

The Russian, thirteen years her junior, had more energy reserves for the last set. Wozniacki can no longer keep up and has to admit a defeat of 1:6. Beatriz Haddad Maia (27) is now waiting for Timofejea. The Brazilian defeated Alina Alexandrovna Korneyeva (16) 6:1 and 6:2. (SDA/men)
