Williams chooses Sargeant, meanwhile almost all seats in Formula 1 are occupied
Logan Sargeant becomes the second driver in the Williams team. The 21-year-old American replaces Nicholas Latifi as Alexander Albon’s teammate.
Due to disappointing results, Latifi had to leave the British racing team, which is in the hands of American investors. Nyck de Vries immediately scored World Cup points when he was allowed to replace the Canadian once in September.
Small caveat
Sargeant has yet to get his super license but that seems like a formality given his current third place finish in Formula 2. “We think he’s absolutely ready to get into Formula 1,” said team boss Jost Capito.
Sargeant becomes the first American driver in Formula 1 since Alexander Rossi in 2015.
For the coming season, in which two Dutchmen will be active in Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and De Vries (AlphaTauri), almost all places are taken. Only Team Haas has one spot left.
