Five players absent, Garcia gone: YB coach Wicky is now changing his game system?

YB will have to replace half a team when it restarts after the winter break. Goalscorer Meschack Elia (Democratic Republic of Congo), defense chief Mohamed Ali Camara (Guinea), regular player Saidy Janko (Gambia), winger Ebrima Colley (Gambia) and talented complementary player Miguel Chaiwa (Zambia) are all currently at the Africa Cup of Nations .

The five have not yet played a role in Ivory Coast. Elia will only start working with Congo on Wednesday, just like Chaiwa with Zambia. YB leader Camara starved for ninety minutes on the bench at Guinea. Janko played in Gambia’s 3-0 defeat against Senegal, but the team appears to be too lightweight to have a chance of reaching the last sixteen. And Colley wasn’t even on the scoresheet in this average team.

The problem cases of Camara and Elia

But at YB, the absence of these players, with the exception of Chaiwa, is significant. Janko (with Lewin Blum) and Colley (with Monteiro) can be replaced with some difficulty, but in the other two cases it looks completely different. Aurèle Amenda will play for Camara. Seeländer is expected to sign for Eintracht Frankfurt almost every hour. If he does that and is not loaned to YB for half a season, the Seeländer would also leave.

Then coach Raphael Wicky was left with exactly two central defenders: captain Fabian Lustenberger and Loris Benito. It would not be the fastest central defender duo in history. And because Lustenberger can hardly keep up with the terrible rhythm of a large number of players, YB must take urgent action. An important argument for Amenda to end the season in Bern.

And Elijah? He is the only one of the four attackers who meets the profile of a fast and dazzling attacker; the other three (Nsame, Itten, Ganvoula) are classic attackers. There are two solutions: Wicky relies on two towers, which he has already done. Or he changes his system and only plays with one striker.

Has Garcia’s replacement been found yet?

And then there is left back Ulisses Garcia, who moves to Marseille. What alternatives does Wicky have? Well, in Noah Persson (20) he has a real replacement in the talented Swede, who has already represented Garcia once: in the Champions League qualifier against Maccabi Haifa, when Garcia was recovering. And Persson did very well. Of course, he just can’t match Garcia’s cross quality. Only: YB no longer has a backup at left back – unless you count Benito, who has mutated into the actual central defender. But maybe everything will happen very quickly with a transfer at left back – and Jaouen Hadjam (20) will come over from Nantes.
