Alexandra Kostenjuk (r.) wins gold at the European Blitz and Rapid Chess Championships in Monaco.

48 hours after winning the European Women’s Blitz Chess Championship, grandmaster Alexandra Kostenjuk also won the gold medal in blitz chess in Monaco.

The 39-year-old Swiss, seeded number 1, lived up to her role as favorite and was the only one of the 116 competitors with a total of 9 points from 11 rounds. She remained undefeated with seven wins and four draws.

Alexandra Kostenjuk, a former world champion in classical chess (with much more thinking time), won the European Fast Chess Championship for the third time after 2015 and 2019. At the end of last year, Kostenyuk, who has not played for Switzerland since 2023 and for Russia since 2023, took second place at the World Blitz Chess Championship. (SDA)
