Before the World Cup at home there can be laughter again: Melanie Hasler, the fastest Swiss woman, and Michael Vogt, the fastest Swiss woman, are so far over their injuries that a start in St. Moritz is possible.

Breathe a sigh of relief for the home world championship. The two Swiss team leaders – Michael Vogt (26) for the men and Melanie Hasler (25) for the women – will participate in St. Moritz this weekend despite their injuries.

The start of the fastest Swiss woman and man was uncertain. But Vogt got his back problems back under control with a lot of therapy. The man from Schwyz told Blick: “Everything worked during the training. Now I hope it stays that way this weekend.”

If your back allows it, the platform is possible

What does that mean for the two-man race on Saturday (1 p.m. livestream on SRF)? Everything is possible. A top result like a year ago in St. Moritz with World Cup bronze or Vogt’s first World Cup victory a month ago in La Plagne – but also that the spit appears out of nowhere again as in the season opener in China.

However, the prospects for Hasler, Vogt’s private partner, are less rosy. After her effort, the Aargau resident could only train in slow motion. How well her injury has healed will only become clear in the monobob (9 a.m., livestream SRF) under full load. Hasler’s start has already averted an embarrassment: if the currently only Swiss World Cup driver had dropped out, the home race would have taken place without a single local. The emerging talents are not yet eligible to start at the highest level.
