Return of judoka polling leads to a quick retreat
The return of judoka Kim Polling to the tatami has proved a major disappointment. At the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi, the four-time European champion in the category under 70 kilograms lost to Elisavet Teltsidou in the first round.
Polling, who lives in Italy, conceded her third time penalty in her game against the Greek in overtime. The tournament in the emirate was over for the 31-year-old judoka before it had even started.
The Tokyo Olympics would be Polling’s last top-level tournament of the past year. Since she wasn’t selected for this event, she decided to temporarily prioritize her personal life. She became a mother six months ago. Now she has her sights set on the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
Earlier this week, Polling was excited for her return.
