Good start for Switzerland in qualifying for the Australian Open. Both Jill Teichmann (WTA 130) and Simona Waltert (WTA 166) on the women’s side and Alexander Ritschard (ATP 198) on the men’s side impressed with their performances in the 1st round.

Teichmann needed just 52 minutes for her 6:2, 6:1 victory against Frenchwoman Alice Robbe (WTA 224). Waltert also needed less than an hour for her 6:1, 6:1 victory against Croatia’s Petra Marcinko (WTA 174). Ritschard has to ‘fight’ some more against Clément Tabur (ATP 232). Ritschard won the first set in the tiebreak (7:5), securing victory after just over two hours and a 6:3 in the second set.
