500 million project to be implemented: Sion can look forward to a new stadium

The canton of Valais (with state councilor Frédéric Favre, 44), the city of Sion (with mayor Philippe Varone), the Valais Football Association and Sion boss Christian Constantin (67) have invited people to a joint media conference tomorrow, Thursday. Title: “Future of professional football and young talent in Valais.” Now we can speculate. Will CC’s gigantic project with a super-modern stadium, which will be largely financed with new apartments, become reality? Did the Zampano actually convince the canton and the city to contribute 50 million francs each to the project?

An action plan has been drawn up

Well: if the entire Rösslispiel is shown in the tourbillon, that is difficult to accept. A failure of the project would hardly be announced with such fanfare. And that means: construction is underway on the modern stadium with a capacity of 15,000 fans. It should be ready for occupancy by 2030. For this purpose, a new youth center with a training facility for professionals is being built. And a total of about 600 apartments. The budget is 510 million francs. The invitation states that the four parties involved, namely the canton, the city, the association and FC Sion, “have developed an action plan to ensure the survival of professional football and support young footballers in Valais”.

Even Constantin doesn’t want to reveal anything: “We have agreed on confidentiality. Come to the media conference!” A trip to Sion on Thursday actually seems worthwhile.
