The season is over for Lukas Zippert.

Only die-hard Swiss ski fans probably know the name Lukas Zippert. The 25-year-old has never competed in the World Cup, but he finished in the top 5 twice in the European Cup. Now the winter of 2023/24 is over for the C-team driver.

During a training session in Hinterreit (Austria), the Graubünden from the Arosa ski club suffered a serious fall and broke his femur. «After a mistake on the inside of the ski, the ski suddenly got stuck again and I fell. “It probably happened when we turned around several times,” Zippert said through Nau.

The speed and giant slalom specialist has already undergone surgery in Zell am See (A) and will be moved to Switzerland mid-week. Zippert, whose role model is Didier Cuche (49), actually wanted to participate in the European Cup races in Saalbach (A) this week, but he now has to wait until at least next season for his 44th appearance in the second highest ski level.

Already the third broken leg

It is not the first fracture that Zippert has suffered in his career. In 2017 he broke his tibia and in 2022 he broke his lower leg. That’s probably why he takes the latest accident in his Instagram story with a dose of sarcasm: “Every year.” He also shows his scratched face.

His biggest success to date came in 2019 at the Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, where he won the gold medal in the Super-G. His only top 5 placings in the European Cup came in December 2021 in Glungezer (A, 4th and 5th place). Both giant slaloms were won by current World Cup podium rider Joan Verdu (28) from Andorra.
