After a failed qualification, Gregor Deschwanden will face the leading Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi in the final competition of the Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen on Saturday.
The man from Lucerne, who came to the tour as number 8 in the World Cup rankings, jumped only 117 m and was the last jumper to qualify for the knockout matches. Kobayashi reached 138 m and won qualifying by a wide margin. His closest rival in the general classification, the German Andreas Wellinger, did not get further than 9th place.
Peier against last year’s tour winner
With Killian Peier (32./125.5 m), Remo Imhof (44./127.5 m) and Simon Ammann (46./122.5 m), the other Swiss also survived the qualification. They are also outsiders in Saturday’s matches: Peier meets the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud, who won the tour last year, Imhof against the Slovenian Lovro Kos and Amman against Anze Lanisek, third overall at the last event.
