Things did not remain quiet for Ardon Jashari (21) during the holidays. Just like last summer, more and more rumors are emerging that the captain could leave the FCL in the winter transfer period. But for Mario Frick one thing is clear: “I assume that our captain will stay until the summer.” From his point of view, a change in winter makes little sense. The only exception: “An incredible offer comes in that would be good for him, but especially for us.”
The midfielder also made headlines during the preliminary round when he was unavailable for the U21 national team in November. The shareholder conflict, which has been simmering for more than a year, continues to cause unrest in Central Switzerland. This has no impact on daily work, says Frick. “But if disruptive fires come from outside and inside, that is certainly not beneficial. But partly it is our own fault.”
FCL is looking for an experienced player
The Liechtensteiner makes no secret of the fact that the preliminary round did not go entirely satisfactorily. “Our goal was 30 points.” In the end there were only 25, but still 6th place, the declared goal of the FCL for the season after the 33rd round. From the coach’s perspective, the main reason for the missing points is the lack of opportunity evaluation. However, attracting a new striker is not a priority for Frick. He is convinced that his attacking team will break at some point. As an example he mentions Willem Geubbels of FC St. Gallen, who made a point in the second part of the preliminary round with five goals and three assists in six games.
Frick sees the need for action in defense, especially because Ismajl Beka (24) is out until the end of the season. “We want an experienced player with a lot of leadership.” The planned new signing should help the FCL move up again. “We are traditionally stronger in the second half of the season,” said Frick. He is also counting on it this time and hopes that his team will ‘take off’. The foundation for this will be laid in the ten-day training camp in Marbella that starts on Wednesday. “The batteries are recharged,” said Frick, who took a short break in South Africa over the holidays.
