It’s a historic day for the Swiss men’s team: ten skiers are at the start of the Stelvio Super-G, all of whom are in the top 30! And just like the day before, it is Justin Murisier who becomes the second best Swiss, behind the excellent Marco Odermatt. But although the joy after fourth place in the descent was as great as ever, fifth place in the Super-G also brought some frustration. “This time I could have even been on the podium,” the 31-year-old emphasizes.
Odermatt agrees with Murisier
“In the final count I am four tenths behind third place. Unfortunately I lost six tenths in the first section, which shouldn’t have happened to me. But I couldn’t clean the last part either.” Odermatt also sees it this way: “In the descent I was afraid that Justin would risk too much in the finish. This time I would have liked to see him accelerate a little more at the end, because I really want to be on the podium with Justin one day.”
Murisier and Odermatt have largely shared a bed in the ski circus for years. “We fit together very well because we have the same sense of humor. “We can mess around with each other without the other person getting angry,” Justin reveals. Marco nods: “Just like Gino Caviezel, Justin is one of those people who almost never gets on my nerves.”
Murisier: “Gino snores extremely loudly”
The nights with the people from Lower Valais can be very uncomfortable. Background: Murisier is a night walker. “There have been times when I have walked naked through the hotel corridor.” Odermatt: “It may happen that Justin starts talking loudly in his sleep or lashes out because he is fighting for survival in his dream.”
When they share an apartment with Gino Caviezel, as during the North American tour, the nights become even more restless. Murisier: «Gino is a really great guy. But the big problem with him is that he snores extremely loudly.” But in the Super-G in Bormio, the Graubünden is wide awake. Just like Loïc Meillard (8th place), Caviezel is in the top 10.
