A tough descent is scheduled for Thursday in Bormio. The Pista Stelvio is filled with extreme shocks in sections. Perfect conditions for the wild daredevil Cyprien Sarrazin – the Frenchman sets the fastest time in the first training session.

The training in Beaver Creek (second in the first rehearsal, fastest in the final training) has already shown that the 29-year-old is in the shape of his life this year. Much to Sarrazin’s chagrin, all races at the Birds of Prey had to be canceled on the first weekend of December.

In Val Gardena last week, the southern Frenchman only missed the podium by 6 hundredths with a fourth place in the original descent. So far, Sarrazin’s only place on a World Cup podium is in giant slalom (2nd in Alta Badia 2019).

The American Ryan Cochran-Siegle was the second fastest, losing four tenths to Sarrazin. The Olympic silver winner in the Super-G celebrated his only World Cup victory in the Bormio Super-G in December 2020.

And the Swiss? Marco Odermatt, in tenth place, is two hundredths faster than Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

The training ride of Loïc Meillard, who set the twelfth best time with starting number 32, deserves the rating ‘impressive’. The vice world champion in giant slalom from Valais has not yet achieved a single World Cup point in the downhill.

In summary, it can be said that the training is difficult to assess. This is because the contenders for victory clearly used tactics.
