The Lucerne Traffic Authority (VBL) draws a line in the sand: in the future, away fans will no longer be offered special bus trips to the stadium. The VBL wants to terminate the associated agreement with FC Luzern at the end of the current season.
The “Luzerner Zeitung” refers to a communication CDF VBL. The move is justified by “several massive damage to property” and verbal hostility from visiting fans towards employees. “The sad highlight was the incident at the end of January 2022, when FC Basel fans destroyed four VBL buses. There was material damage of approximately 50,000 francs.”
“Increased willingness to commit violence among away fans”
The riot by FCB supporters was not the only violent episode. The VBL also reports an incident from May this year in which Servette fans allegedly lit a pyroflare on the bus and tried to break the safety glass that protects the drivers.
Because of this “increased willingness to commit violence among visiting fans”, the VBL describes the decision as “no alternative”. Although we regret the end of the collaboration with the FCL, the safety of the staff is the highest priority. (sbe)
