Reto Schmidiger wins the European Cup slalom in Obereggen in South Tyrol with 48 hundredths ahead of his teammate Matthias Iten, who ends up on the podium for the first time in the European Cup. It is already the fifth victory in the European Cup for the 31-year-old Schmidiger, who is currently no longer part of the Swiss ski team. The last time the man from Nidwalden won was in February in Zakopane, Poland.

The three-time world junior champion was repeatedly set back by injuries. Schmidiger started 87 World Cup races, with his last to date in March 2022 in Flachau. Next up is the Madonna di Campiglio night slalom on December 22. For his victory in the European Cup, Schmidiger is now rewarded with a return to the World Cup, albeit initially only for one race.
