Reto von Arx (coach) and EHC Chur have submitted a promotion request to the league.

EHC Chur currently plays in the MyHockey League. And quite successful. After 19 games, the team from Graubünden, where the Von Arx brothers (Reto and Jan) are coaches, is in first place.

It is therefore no surprise that the cult club has big plans. Next season, EHC Chur wants to play in the Swiss League and the club has submitted an application to the Ice Hockey Association to move from the MyHockey League to the Swiss League.

Promotion “would have positive effects”

“We have set ourselves the target of implementing all necessary guidelines and targets within the deadlines set by the SIHF. By developing a clear vision and strategy, we try to achieve the requested goals and make the necessary adjustments,” the club explains in a press release.

In addition to the sporting requirements, financial and organizational points must also be met for the change of competition. “We are convinced that this desired transition to the Swiss league will have positive consequences for EHC Chur, not only on a sporting but also economic level,” it continues.

Arosa takes a different approach

However, there are no ambitions for promotion at canton rival EHC Arosa. As the club reports, no such request will be made for the 2024/25 season. Coach Rolf Schrepfer’s team is currently in 7th place in the MyHockey League. The club’s statement said they “do not want to take any experimental risks”.

But the subject of the Swiss League has not yet been completely ticked off at Arosa either. «The EHC Arosa continues to pursue its ambitions to promote to the Swiss League at a later date. The club will closely monitor developments in the 2024/25 season and assess at what point promotion to the next higher competition is feasible. (par/cat)
