Joey Hadorn (OL)

When the orienteer woke up on the morning of July 16, he assumed that he would have a day without competition at the home world championships in Flims/Laax. But at 8:15 am there were several knocks on the door. A little later he found out that he would be used as a replacement for the injured Martin Hubmann in the World Cup relay. A few hours later Hadorn (M.) became world champion. From bed to World Cup gold, that doesn’t happen every day.

Marlen Reusser (bicycle)

The Swiss cyclist was on course for a medal in the time trial at the World Championships when she suddenly slowed down just before the halfway point of the race, stopped and eventually gave up. Everyone is wondering: what was going on? In the evening she explains: “I wasn’t hungry. I didn’t feel like it and so I stopped.” Damn brave, this action!

Rachel Rinast (soccer)

When the women’s national team had a friendly meeting with Morocco in July, the former national team player and now SRF co-commentator spontaneously provided a song sample. After a Morocco fan – equipped with all kinds of plush lions – was shown, she sang a few bars of the famous film song ‘The Lion King’. A touch of Disney in the middle of the international game.

Fabio Scherer (car racing)

Have you ever broken a bone in your foot? If not, let me tell you: this is fucking painful. That’s exactly what happened to the Central Swiss driver during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, as an opposing car ran over his left foot in the pit lane. But what did Scherer do? Nothing! Or to put it another way: he drove on. As a reward there was even a victory in the LMP2 class. Scherer: “I am probably the first driver to win Le Mans with a broken foot.”

Dominic Stricker (tennis)

What a cool dog. When the Bernese tennis professional played against world number 7 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of the US Open, he led 5:2 in the fifth set. Usually the moment to get nervous when switching sides and the associated pause. But no knitters. When the Whitney Houston hit ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ came out, he just sang along. PS: A few minutes later he left the arena as the winner.

Cool, cooler, Dominic! Here Stricker sings during the main page change(00:29)
