Hardly any tennis player has captivated the spectators more this year than Jannik Sinner (22). Whichever tournament he appeared at, the Italian was hugely celebrated for his achievements. For this he received the prize for most popular tennis player in the world from the ATP players’ association.
The two coaches Simone Vagnozzi (40) and Darren Cahill (58) are behind Sinner’s impressive rise. They were also recently named Coach of the Year. And they came just ahead of Goran Ivanisevic (52), the coach of Novak Djokovic (36) – who is still waiting for his first prize.
Three out of four Grand Slams are not enough
The congratulations from the tennis world were not long in coming. Even Djokovic joined the congratulations: “Congratulations to Darren and Simone for a great season with Jannik,” the Serb wrote on Instagram.
However, he still couldn’t avoid a swipe. “Goran, I think we need to win four of the four Grand Slams so that you can maybe be named Coach of the Year.” Apparently it is not good enough to be number one at the end of the year, to win three Grand Slams and the ATP Finals and to write history in this sport, he adds with a sharp remark.
