In Austria, DSV Leoben from the 2nd Bundesliga is threatened with a scandal. There are allegations such as money laundering and slush funds. The club’s prosperity is apparently based on investment fraud, writes the Kleine Zeitung, which was the first to report about this.
Vienna police carried out house searches. Data carriers were seized. The focus of the investigation apparently lies with Mario Bichler, the club chairman of DSV Leoben. 19 other people from Austria, Germany and Switzerland are suspected. This concerns “serious commercial fraud”. The presumption of innocence still applies to everyone.
Are there unofficial player contracts?
Bichler denies all allegations. He also stated through his lawyer that DSV Leoben “was not investigated”. However, there could be 30,000 victims in the entire fraud case. The estimated extent of damage currently stands at 165 million euros and there is still much room for improvement, according to a report by Viennese lawyer Jörg Zarbl, who represents some 750 victims.
An anonymous complaint also accuses DSV Leoben of having different player contracts with the football club: one official and one that guarantees the players additional net amounts.
DSV Leoben also has a former Swiss U21 international under contract, 24-year-old Enrique Wild. It is not known that he is one of the suspects. (SDA)
