Ankaragücü’s ex-president Faruk Koca has been banned for life after the brutal attack on referee Meler during a Turkish league match.
In addition, Ankaragücü must pay a fine equivalent to around 60,000 francs and must not allow spectators in the next five home games.
Koca, who resigned on Tuesday, hit referee Meler in the face with his fist after the final whistle of the match between Ankaragücü and Caykur Rizespor. Meler then fell to the ground and others involved kicked him. Rizespor equalized 1-1 in the seventh minute of extra time.
In response to the incident, all league matches will be suspended until December 19. (SDA)
