The women’s national team suffered their second defeat in the second match of the five-nation tournament. In contrast to the clear 1:4 against the Czech Republic on Wednesday, the women played bravely against Sweden.

The match starts unfavorably for the Swiss, with Stalder having to go to the penalty area after a check in the first minute of the match. The Swiss then defended in solidarity and had better opportunities in the starting third. Yet it is the hosts who open the score: Tedenby coldly punishes a Swiss goal loss. The women’s national team responded unimpressed, nine minutes later Lena Marie Lutz caught the Swedish goalkeeper between the cushions.

Swedish double whammy

Shortly before and after the second third break, the Swedes scored twice – too many for the national team. Even though Büchi makes the Swiss dream again with a powerful long shot, in the end it is not enough and the national team is poorly rewarded for a strong performance.

With their performance against Sweden, the national team can hope to earn their first win of the tournament against Germany on Friday or Finland on Sunday. (jsl)
