TV investment for a mega amount?: German football league decides to involve investors

The German Football League hopes to make a lot of money in the TV sector thanks to the enabled entry of investors.

In the second attempt, German professional football cleared the way for an investor to join in. During the meeting of the 36 clubs from the first and second division in Frankfurt on Monday, the necessary two-thirds majority for negotiations between the German Football League (DFL) and potential donors was narrowly achieved. Participants confirmed this after the meeting. By May the attempts had failed.

The majority could not have been smaller on Monday: 24 votes yes, ten votes no, two abstentions.

The new plan provides for the sale of six to nine percent of the shares in a subsidiary of DFL, to which all media rights will be outsourced, over twenty years. This would require between 800 million and one billion euros. (AFP)
