After flights of 138 and the hill record distance of 146.5 meters, the 32-year-old from Lucerne was only defeated by the German Karl Geiger.

On Saturday, Deschwanden equaled his record with a 7th place and Geiger won the first of two competitions. On Sunday, the Swiss was in 6th place after the first round and in the reprise the veteran took advantage of the perfect conditions for a dream flight. Only the half-time leader, Geiger, intercepted the Central Swiss player.

The other Swiss also score points

With Remo Imhof (24th), Killian Peier (26th) and Simon Ammann (29th), the other Swiss also finished in the points in the weekend before the home World Cup in Engelberg.

The last time a Swiss climbed onto a World Cup podium before Deschwanden was Killian Peier, who finished second in Nizhny Tagil in December 2019. After Robert Mösching, Hansjörg Sumi, Gérard Balanche, Stefan Zünd, Sylvain Freiholz, Bruno Reuteler, Ammann, Andreas Küttel, Sabrina Windmüller and Peier, Deschwanden is the eleventh Swiss Ski representative on the podium. At the time of Walter Steiner and Hans Schmid, the World Cup did not yet exist. (SDA/men)
