Only one Swiss woman in the top 10. That is the bitter truth after the descent in St. Moritz. Michelle Gisin is in eighth place on the Swiss ski team. “Unfortunately it’s not a Swiss day,” she admits.

It certainly isn’t. In addition to Gisin, seven others reached the points, but 21-year-old Delia Durrer was the only one who could be satisfied: she finished in 19th place.

The biggest Swiss asset, Corinne Suter, comes in eleventh place without any obvious mistakes. “The trip was okay, but it’s still not what I want,” she says. One thing is clear: because Suter had to miss the training camp in Copper Mountain (USA) due to illness, she is missing out on quality speed days.

Lara Gut-Behrami finishes in 13th place and says: “I get a second in the upper, flat part. After that it was okay.” The race is stopped after 35 riders – the visibility is too poor.

A defeat – agree?

In the last 28 descents, the Swiss have only been worse than this time once. This is also why the result in the Engadine is a defeat. Agree, Hans Flatscher?

The Swiss Alpine director hesitates for a moment and says: “Slack is a difficult word. But that is certainly not what we imagine.” But we are not yet at the point where this cannot be corrected in the future.

In fact, the gap with Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), who won for the fourth time in St. Moritz, is small. Still, Flatscher says, “There are no excuses. We just have to do better.”
